I’ve lived near Victoria Park Golf Course for most of my life. Some of my earliest memories involve walking the greens with my family, watching my grandfather practice his gentle swing and taking in the surrounding greenery. Over the years, this golf course has become more than just a place to play a sport—it’s been a gathering spot for local friends, a serene escape in the heart of our city, and a reminder of Brisbane’s unique combination of urban vibrancy and natural beauty. As excitement builds for the 2032 Olympics and the proposed stadium plans, I feel both pride and concern. A world-class stadium has the potential to put Brisbane on the global map, yet I also want to see the golf course’s character preserved. Victoria Park has become a central part of our community’s lifestyle—social events, junior golf programs, and daily exercise all rely on this green space. I believe it’s possible to balance these interests. Perhaps a stadium design could integrate the existing golf course layout, preserving significant portions of the fairways while modernizing others for shared use. Pathways could wind through landscaped areas, and new recreational amenities—like driving ranges or mini-golf features—could draw in both locals and visitors year-round. By respecting the natural contours and habitats of the course, we’d maintain the green setting that’s so beloved by residents. I’m hopeful that by combining the vision of a new stadium with the existing heritage of the golf course, we can create a unique destination that serves both sporting excellence and community well-being. With open dialogue and careful planning, Victoria Park can remain a treasured place for families like mine while contributing to the bright future of Brisbane’s Olympic legacy.
